Sjømannskirken Narvik

Welcome to the «International Seamen's Center/ Sjømannskirken i Narvik». The International Seamen's Center was completed and opened by «The Church of Sweden Abroad (SKUT» in 1950 because of all the Swedish seafarers and workers who lived and visited the city. From 1970 to 1990, the number of Swedish seafarers fell sharply and in 1997 the church/ building was taken over by a foundation. The purpose of the foundation is; Welfare center for seafarers, meeting place for people coming to Narvik and Cultural center for the municipality's residents.

Cultural center/ church
Sjømannskirka is widely used as a cultural center for the city's residents. The building is used for concerts, a dance cafe for the disabled, historical and other lectures, choir rehearsals, meetings, memorial gatherings after funerals and much more. In the church there are approx. 15 services a year. However, the church has the same opening hours as the cafe. Here you are welcome to light a candle, pray and enjoy the silence.

Crew/ seafarers receive the following benefits with us;
20% discount on souvenirs, 1 free coffee/ Tea/ Hot chocolate, free money exchange (up to 50 dollars/ euros) and access to the lounge and facilities downstairs. Please show your seafarer's license/ID.

Cafe
Our cafe is open every day of the year from 17-21 (Saturdays closed). In the summer we are open from 08-21. Note that the cafe may be closed at private events.
