Rock carvings, known as petroglyphs, depict prehistoric images etched or chiseled into rocks. The Narvik region boasts the country's largest collection of these ancient artworks.

While most need a day's journey, a site just a 15-minute walk from the city center, Brennholtet, displays 5,000-year-old rock art from the Veide culture. It features a 2-meterlong contour-carved moose on a northfacing slope, accompanied by informative signs about its history
