Narvik
Narvik Harbor is celebrating its 125th anniversary
The Port of Narvik was founded by Royal Resolution - 3 August 1899 as a vital export port for iron ore from Kiruna, and since then has been a hub for trade and industry in Northern Norway. The port has played a crucial role in promoting economic growth and international relations, and its history is closely woven together with the development of Narvik city and the surrounding region.
During the Second World War, Narvik Harbor played a decisive role. It became a strategic target and the scene of fierce battles between Allied and German forces in 1940. The battles for Narvik are among the most famous in Norwegian war history and symbolize the resistance and sacrifice of our soldiers and civilians.
