The Stetind skiing and heritage experience

Visit Norway’s national mountain – a place you will never forget. Experience ski touring in a stunning landscape with a unique history.

The mountains surrounding Stetinden, Norway’s national mountain, offer excellent ski touring options of different length and difficulty. From the main parking lot beneath Stetinden we can choose between the following alternatives:

Titinden – A relatively short and easy ski tour with a fantastic view of Stetinden. This option has some really nice skiing above and below tree line.
Peak 1047 – The route to this peak goes past the huge granite faces of Stetinden and Presttinden. Except for a few short steep sections this option is relatively easy and the skiing is really good.

Halls fortopp – The true summit of Stetinden requires proper climbing and is not a ski touring option, but the slightly lower pre-summit (“fortopp” means pre-summit) provides some excellent views and is only a moderately difficult ski tour.

Presttinden – Stetindens closest neighbouring mountain is almost as impressive, but here it is possible to go all the way to the main summit on skis. To ski the spectacular southeast ridge is not difficult, but an unforgettable experience.

With many options to choose from, we will be able to pick an objective of the day that fits with the wishes and abilities of the group.

Stetinden has a special place in Norwegian climbing history, as well in the Norwegian environmental movement. The famous Norwegian philosopher and climber Arne Næss introduced modern climbing techniques with climbs of unprecedented difficulty on the different rock faces of Stetinden. On a later trip to Stetinden, he was part of developing a new way of thinking about humanity and nature – eco-philosophy.

We will finish the ski tour by sitting down around an open fire, to share the best moments from the day and admire the fantastic surroundings. Here we will enjoy some coffee the Scandinavian way – boiled in a pot over an open fire and served with some local delicacies such as salted reindeer meat or salty coffee cheese.

Level of difficulty
- We will adapt the difficulty to the group’s wishes and abilities, but you must have basic touring
experience and skiing or splitboarding abilities so that you can manage different types of snow
conditions in off-piste terrain.
